A Glimpse of God

I have a very dear friend with whom I have very widely different political beliefs. It just so happens I was given the gift of also being his minister. We have gotten into some heavy discussions, in private, about our preferred candidates. These discussions never evolve into name calling or hateful comments. Once we each have shared our opinions, we segway into other types of conversations.

He and I joke a lot about so many different things. I love this individual because we are bound together by something greater than our political ideologies. We bound together by the love of God through Jesus Christ. If he or his family needed anything I would do anything for him.

My friend is a good person, treats people with respect and cares for his follow human being. I see my friend through the eyes of Christ. Paul tells us that we aren’t to see each other through our human eyes, but through the eyes of Christ.

When God created humankind God breathed God’s breath into Adam. It was the divine breath of God so within all humankind is the divinity of God. We must always remember that when we look into a person’s eyes God is present there. We are all a creation of God’s.

There are people in other faiths that I disagree with and so I don’t attend their church nor subscript to their beliefs, but it doesn’t mean they should die. I struggle with individuals who stand on a street corner screaming hurtful things that make my blood boil, they have the right to express themselves but not be shot for their beliefs.

We live in a country where we supposedly have the right to freedom of speech. There is a quote that says, “I may disagree with what you have said, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. After the actions of a cowardice individual yesterday I fear this ideal no longer exist. I may not have agreed with everything Charlie Kirk said, he had every right to state his beliefs and not fear for his life.

I John says, “if you hate then you are not of God. The most disturbing thing, other than a Husband, Father and man of God was shot dead, is the celebrating by those who opposed him, those who say they are accepting of others, even more disturbing a lot of these celebrants are so called Christians. What all this says about those who disagreed with him, and celebrate his death is, we are accepting, but only if you believe the way we believe, if not we will kill you.

My heart is broken! I am praying for Charlie Kirk’s family. I am praying for our nation that we can somehow stop the hatred, stop the killing. We can only have peace if we are willing to sit down and have dialogue with one another. We may not come to an agreement on things, but at least we can look each other in the eyes and get a glimpse of God and maybe just maybe we can truly learn to accept one another in spite of our differences.

Until Next Time

Grace and Peace
