My name is Shane Hickey. I am a retired minister of 30 years. I was actually for the longest time a Bi- vocation minister. I retired from Baker Hughes after 38 years. I am married to my wife Susan, and we are about to celebrate 50 years together. We have two sons, a wonderful daughter in law and one soon to be daughter in law and 5 beautiful and energetic grandchildren.
It took me 9-1/2 years to get my Master of Divinity. I kidded one of my professors that I should get tenure. He reminded me that was only for the professors. I worked at Baker Hughes, attended seminary and was minister at a small church for 3-1/2 years in Kaw City, Oklahoma before I was called in March 1999 to Fellowship Christian back in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where I was the 24th minister in the church’s 55-year history. I was their minister for 23 of those 55 years., you do the math! I graduated from seminary in May 2001 and was ordained June 3, 2001.
In 2022 a dear friend and colleague, Rev. Glen Davis passed away at his church, in his office at First Christian Church-Broken Arrow. The family and church were devastated. First Christian and Fellowship had split 55 years ago, but on April 17, 2022, Fellowship Christian merged with First Christian, and I was called to be their minister. After 3-1/2 years of bring the church families together it was time for someone else to take them to them through the next step, so on June 1, 2025, I retired.
My journey through my ministry has been something that has brought me great joy. I have seen God working in my life and my ministry throughout my journey. I have been blessed by the people who have been a huge part of that journey. I love them so much!
Though I have retired, of course the journey is not over. I am excited about all the new opportunities for ministry that await me. I know one thing where the new journey leads me, God will be there. Until Next time
Grace and Peace
